Product Research
Degrees: Chemistry or Chemical Engineering

Product Research Scientists at SC Johnson may lead or work as part of a team with other highly qualified personnel from Process Development, Package Development, Design, Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, and Marketing to develop and launch new products. At SC Johnson, you will also have high quality facilities and resource staff available in the areas of toxicology, analytical chemistry, microbiology, physical chemistry and entomology to aid in product development efforts. Effective project planning and successful management of multiple priorities are requirements for the job. Your efforts will lead directly to a product that might be marketed and found on store shelves around the world.

Product Research Scientists focus on the application of innovative technologies to meet consumer needs in SC Johnson’s Personal Care, Insect Control, Home Care, Air Care, or Home Storage businesses. Project assignments could include:

  • Develop innovative formulations and new product ideas.
  • Research and design experiments to provide new technologies or new uses for existing technologies that will lead to new products and product claims.
  • Develop and test formulations/packaged products to meet identified consumer needs.
  • Develop core research technologies that enable the development of new products.
  • Provide creative trouble-shooting assistance to U.S. and international manufacturing facilities.

Process Development
Degrees: Chemical Engineering

Process Development Engineers at SC Johnson may lead or work as part of a team with other highly qualified personnel from Product Research, Package Development, Design, Manufacturing and Marketing to develop and launch new products and to develop new processes to manufacture those products. At SC Johnson, you might also work with Regulatory Affairs to incorporate EPA mandated Good Laboratory Practices into new and already developed processes. Effective project planning and successful management of multiple priorities are necessary for the job.

Process Development Engineers are the main link between Product Research and Manufacturing at SC Johnson. Personal Care, Insect Control, Home Care, Air Care or Home Storage project assignments might include:

  • Develop, recommend, and demonstrate processes and equipment for the manufacture of new and revised intermediates and finished products which meet quality, safety, cost, and timing requirements.
  • Develop innovative processes and scale-up from bench to pilot plant to production.
  • Coordinate pilot plant operations including the design and selection of pilot plant equipment for new products.
  • Plan and coordinate engineering research studies to provide quality and cost benefits to company products and to improve process development techniques.
  • Analyze and provide solutions to process-related manufacturing problems worldwide.

Package Development
Degrees: Package Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering

Package Development Engineers are needed to address packaging component needs involving all facets of primary and secondary packaging for liquid, solid, and aerosol products. They can lead or work as part of a team with other highly qualified personnel from Product Research, Process Development, Design, Manufacturing, Marketing, and outside vendors to develop packaging for assigned brands or products. Effective project planning and successful management of multiple priorities are necessary for the job.

Package Development Engineers apply new and existing packaging technologies to new products, line extensions, and line maintenance programs for SC Johnson’s consumer products. Personal Care, Insect Control, Home Care, Air Care or Home Storage project assignments might include:

  • Evaluate materials and components in order to develop cost effective, high-quality packaging.
  • Provide technical assessments and interact with various groups to develop packaging that meets program objectives.
  • Provide technical assistance to correct package-related problems and maintain product quality.
  • Establish a broad scope of contacts to maintain awareness of current trends and to aid development of package components.
