"My son had a very high fever on a Friday night. Blood tests showed it was dengue. On the third day, we took him to the hospital. We knew when the fever subsides it's the most dangerous period because the blood pressure falls and a person can hemorrhage.

"Blood was flowing down my son's nose. I've never seen so much blood before. He came so close to needing a transfusion. But we were so lucky that he came through it.

"Most parents think only small children are vulnerable to dengue, but the effect on older children and adults was quite a big lesson for my family. We were lucky with my son, but we've seen how tragic and serious dengue is.
